Welcome to Thought Ambulations.

Webster defines AMBULATE as moving from place to place. This blog is about moving thoughts and opinions from place to place in the universe. Just like physical ambulation can stimulate circulation, this blog wants to stimulate thinking.

Let it begin!

Miley Cyrus and Rappers

Noel Coward once said "It is discouraging how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit."
Mothers and fathers  are wringing their hands over the performance at the VMA show by Miley Cyrus. Many are questioning why a child star who became famous as Hannah Montana would put on a sexually driven show. The response to her dance as well as the flesh colored latex bikini has resulted  in numerous VMA complaints. Many concluded it was lewd and lascivious.
I remember hearing stories of how my father called CBS in New York to complain about Elvis and The Beatles when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Shocking music and dance has been around for years. But here is the X in the road.
Why are there so many complaints about Miley when black rap videos have been more suggestive and actually quite descriptive of sexual acts over the past years? Is it because the show was on mainstream media? Is there some kind of hypocrisy that says it's OK for blacks to have no respect for sex, women and themselves? Shouldn't society and parents be just as concerned about black performers doing the same suggestive acts on MTV?
My point is if you are going to be shocked, don't let color stand in your way. Society should not be selective in their outrage. You are either all in or all out.

Obama and The Beatles...The Connection

After his Syria, "I don't want to make a decision" speech today, Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden went golfing. Now those of us old enough to remember The Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour also probably remember the song with the lyrics:

Day after day alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

Which of course is the song The Fool On the Hill.
Sounds like the President on acid!!!!

Iraq, Syria, and Chemicals. Has the Bush Team Been Vindicated?

Are the Syrians the chemical geniuses of the Middle East? Many countries, including Russia, now think that the regime in Syria has used chemical weapons against its citizens and if this sounds familiar, think back to Saddam Hussein's attack against his Kurdish citizens. It has been proven that he gassed thousands in 1988.
So now Iraq's neighbor to the East has allegedly used them too. Did the Syrians manufacture these WMDs or did they take the easy road to massacre? Is the hypothesis that the weapons of mass destruction George Bush and his advisors thought were in Iraq might have been moved and stored in Syria? Is this why no weapons of mass destruction were ever found before and after the Iraq
war?
According to several news reports, in January, 2006, former Iraqi general and number 2 person in the Iraqi Air Command, Georges Sada  claimed that Saddam’s military transferred large stockpiles of chemical weapons to Syria using civilian aircraft with the passenger seats removed. “There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands,’ Mr. Sada said. ‘I am confident they were taken over.’”
Sada claims that 56 trips by two Iraqi Airways Boeings were used to smuggle the weapons into Syria under the guise of transporting civilians. “Saddam realized, this time, the Americans are coming,” Sada said. “They handed over the weapons of mass destruction to the Syrians.”
In March, retired Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney spoke publicly about the likelihood of WMDs in Syria and the high probability that the weapons were moved to Syria immediately prior to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
After an alleged chemical attack near Aleppo, Syria, Lt. Gen. McInerney was asked what the chances were that the chemicals weapons came from Iraq.
“I think there is a high probability of that,” McInerney declared. “That’s conjecture, but we do know prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, there was a lot of vehicles crossing the border into Syria. And there was a great deal of conjecture. A Iraqi major general swore by it. He said he delivered it. And so I think that it would be a very high probability if we could get into those bunkers that they would have Iraqi signatures on them.”
If the United States authorizes military action without UN approval, we can expect that the White House will claim that this military action is, somehow, radically different from Bush’s military action. Further, Americans shouldn’t expect to hear any apologies from the left to Bush or his supporters. Though Syria’s WMD usage might seem to vindicate President Bush’s intelligence reports, Democrats will likely have a hard time letting go of the increasingly  improbable theory that Bush purposefully lied in order to wage a war.

Why Pay For The Dog?

I'm not against pets in the The House but why does Obama need another pet when we can't even see The House because of the sequester? Why do taxpayers have to pay for the pleasure of Obama's Sean Hannity escape every night?
This animal is costing taxpayers $102,000 per year for the dog sitter/ trainer, plus dog food, squeaky toys, grooming, etc.
Bo went on the Martha's Vineyard boondoggle in style. He traveled in an Osprey helicopter which costs $10,000 an hour to operate and of course his handler was also on board.
After eating dog in Indonesia, why does Obama need one as a pet? I guess if a cattle rancher eats steak, he can eat his dog and have it too!
In the face of trillions of debt this is just chump change but every penny adds up.
Bow Wow!

Serge Storms

I love Tim Dorsey's book series featuring Serge A. Storms and his buddy Coleman. They traverse the state of Florida seeking to right wrong and have mucho funno along the way.

During the course of the books Serge provides a running history of Florida and describes many of the great events that have happened in Fla. Fiction, yes, but with a dash of historical reality. His socio-political rants and observations on people, specific industries and landmarks is right on. Isn't Florida the place every one goes, especially ex-cons, to reinvent themselves?

He is often seized with a sudden urge to visit landmarks, although their significance is more personal or related to pop culture rather than historical. He takes loads of photos and has a taste in music that is second to none. His visit to the bar where Lynard Skynard began is belly laugh heaven.

Here is a link to the Wikipedia description of Mr. Storms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serge_A._Storms

And here is a link to a Serge Storms website and blog.

Serge has his own facebook fan club and the big question is when a movie studio is going to pick up the rights to the books. The next question is who will play Serge and Coleman?
